[Staff] Moderators - Explanations and Applications

Meh, they don't start anything, but they have a sense of pride and arrogance that kinda rubs (to me that is), but in the end potential moderators are potential moderators so I will keep my mouth shut as long as they leave me alone.

Bird, I personally have nothing against you. The only real thing is just the differing opinions when it comes to the Funbox and Server 1 in general. I disagree on a lot of things with you, but I have nothing against you personally. I really try not to be prideful nor arrogant at all when it comes to anything, if I came off that way to you, I do apologize.

In all of my multitude of hours playing with these two, I have never seen them be prideful or arrogant.  I've never even seen them lash out at another player.

Although I am no longer around on VSP and have retired as a Mod, I am willing to share what I think about Col and Taoru being mods.

From what I remember, Col has always been a nice guy. He's always been very friendly when I was on, I have not seen him get angry or anything or go against other players, and he also knows a lot about the server's guidelines, information about how the bosses work, etc. as a whole, which really helps when new members come along and such and need to ask some questions. I could see very much see Col being a moderator. It's his time. (Also, he is a great friend, and I mean this).

I'm afraid I don't have much to say about Taoru, but based on what I've seen here on the thread, I think he could be a potential candidate for a moderator position. That's all I can really say though, i'm afraid, since I personally don't remember seeing him that much on the server (I could be wrong and my memory's just tricking me, but it's what I remember).

Colgate becoming a moderator is kind of the known elephant in the room. He has over 2556 hours on just texas alone with his combined specific names. That actually puts him at #1 on this server as far as I know, doubling the average hours of the single top-ten players. If you're looking for somebody who has seen the evolution of VSP through time, along with how to be a part of it, Col is your guy. He's very looked up to, and I actually think he takes care of problems better in some cases. There's a hundred things that could be said in advocation for colgate, but I don't think he's actively seeking it, he's just a good player.

The issue I have with it though is that getting the whole moderator title and status isn't fun. Its difficult to seperate being a player and being an authority. I think it'd be better if there were some mods/admins that just got (20% Cooler), yet have powers. Better yet, a command to turn the custom title on/off.

So Scootz was just crying wolf then?

No, I don't think he was, and you should change your method of disagreement if you're here for a discussion.

I've seen colgate and Tauru spam binds and do some stuff that has been called on. Some people like it, some don't, generally people don't have much of a problem with it, but those that do absolutely have a right to point it out. Col has played here long enough to probably have done things that some other players may have been temp banned for, but I cannot label any specifics, and if I could it wouldn't matter because I think he is one of the best voices of reason when it comes to whats allowed and what isn't, and doesn't have to give off an aura of an impending rulebook, or a status, in order to point out to others what they're doing wrong.

I pretty much gave up on binds, it is a pretty big problem now, and I try to avoid it. I used to do quite a bit though I admit, and probably helped get it to be as popular as it is. Regarding what Scootz was talking about, I think it had to do with changing names often, being similar others in the servers. This got cleared up with Simple though as being fine, so I don't think it's an issue anymore.

I Can vouchs for the hours that he put into, and i would understand giving that title command, because once someone see someone title they dont usually say anything when they see it, not only that but i seen people that would talk about visting a website and trying to get tf2 hack. For instances that happen with a person and as soon as gimpy joined they left, now keep in mind they were on there for a good 20mins soo idk if they knew he was a mod or not, but it would be best to have people that didnt have a title with some limited power.

Now im not one to say that, because im not the server owner, nor am i a admin/mod but when my exprenice playing on the server, it does get chaotic in the server, and there are time when it usually in the morning like 2 am to 4 am (central time zone) which is different from people that are mod, and with that in mind it would be best for new mod, that are on around that time.

I would agree that the funbox does need new mod, considering that server 1 play dont really particularly do not like funbox, idk but i been on the funbox every once in a while, and they usually have better players on there, not that i am saying the server 1 doesnt, but allot less one ragers, and player that think they have braging rights when they play a character with damage boost and almost a one hit, that part is kinda of irrelevant but i thought i would put my input into it.

and with that it show be known that both server need new mod.

The reason I suggest a way to enable/disable status isn't to go undercover, though that could be one perk.

I've been playing around some other games and I found an interesting concept that I think is very applicable to TF2. In this game there are a couple dozen or so admins, however they too are players. Generally they are a part of conversation and gameplay because they like to play the game like before they got their status, however a big difference between this instance and TF2 is that they don't have a big title next to their name and enforcement powers until they activate it. I've found this to be important because people aren't giving special treatment and consideration. You do something people don't like you get called out on it like anybody else, because you are a /player/ until there is reasonable cause to use enforcement powers. After experiencing this I get more of a feeling that mods and admins on VSP are more of nannies than good players trusted with enforcement abilities.

I could of elaborated, but I just stated my opinion though in a blunt way. I will say however it wasn't the smartest reply in itself, but what happened after I posted, I myself do not support because throwing around insults, and on top of that being aggressive even after I just simply state my opinion for that topic itself is nothing but un-called for.

I plyaed this server about a year and in the player that i know, the player have most of a sense of justice is TWILIGHT

and he nearly online every time so i think he is a great choice to be a moderators.

He usually paly in Tokyo server or FunBox server.

Here is his steam account:

He might be really active, but he doesn't really seem to speak english very well or talk in general much.

What Colgate said. Unfortunately, not being able to speak decent English or Japanese would cause a huge language barrier issue. They're getting better over time but I've still had trouble explaining basic things to them even recently.

As a person in general, however, I have no objections against TWILIGHT.

Speaking of those who are quiet. I can understand if a Moderator does not wish to use thier mic but the text chat gets ignored way too much. Personally I think that Moderator's should have the admin speaking command in order to get the attension of certain players.

My prime examples are Col and Taoru, who I've had to speak for in the past due to them being a text chat only player.

Best way to broadcast messages or warnings without using a mic or having it ignored.

And I do believe it can be directed at a single player too.

I'm not sure if this is a good idea of me suggesting this since I'm still new around here but I kinda wanna suggest someone to be mod.

He has past experience as a mod in the old PF2 Servers so i figured i could suggest him to be a mod.

He's also spending some time in the VS ponyville and funbox servers.

Don't forget that "yoxyrageban" is a thing on PF2 and the whole banning players for taunting after killing him thing.

Edit:

Oh yeah, the gloating about getting to permaban a community member after the rules were changed more or less to specifically get the guy banned.

That's why I've been a staff member until the end while you got booted and kept holding a grudge against the whole PF2 staff since then, because I can admit I made a mistake three years ago and I apologized for that single instance where I overused my powers.

You on the other end Aeth, won't stop insulting any instance of higher power not agreeing with your point of view and it has already been proven over the month we've spent after the migration to Ponyville.net

Understandable that he has past experience and all, but it just seems quite early for getting moderator. Different community, different rules, everything is different. I personally haven't seem him once while playing, but if he plays on Funbox, makes a bit of sense I guess. Not saying he wouldn't necessarily make a good mod here, I would just wait a while before it should be considered.

I'd like to chime in for a moment to add some context here.

The "ragebans" incident occurred when a group of players targeted Yoxy and repeatedly taunted after killing him. Yoxy asked DragonLight and he gave him the green light to ban them after some kind of miscommunication, and later they were all unbanned. Yoxy stuck through the hate he got from everyone and stayed loyal until the end.

As for the banning a community member, there was a particular person that repeatedly sprayed porn sprays just barely censored enough to be allowed into the rules at that time. When the rules regarding sprays changed and this individual sprayed his sprays Yoxy warned him several times and he continued to do so anyway, resulting in his ban.

All in all, Yoxy gets a +1 from me for staying loyal and not giving up in the end.
