Temporary Bans Based On Steam Group

2 posts in this topic

Today we have implemented a policy of issuing automatic temporary bans to any member belonging to the Steam group "The Twilight Empire". Our reasons for implementing this policy are complex and we realize that there will unfortunately be innocent parties who are inconvenienced or offended by it. The bans are 5 minutes in length and players are asked to leave the offending community/Steam group if they wish to continue playing on our servers. Players who have been automatically banned as a result of this policy will see the following reason tied to their ban on bans.ponyville.net:

Members of the Steam group 'The Twilight Empire' are not allowed to play on our servers. The management of that community has enabled and encouraged it's members to commit disruptive and damaging acts towards Ponyville.net. These acts have included denial of service attacks and chargebacks on donations with the intention of inflicting financial harm. Some of the perpetrators of these acts retain staff positions in that community. Because of these practices, we have been forced to implement this policy.

I feel that the ban reason speaks for itself.

There have also been numerous cases of staff from the offending community coming to Ponyville.net servers with the intention of breaking rules and causing problems. Upon getting banned from Ponyville.net, they would return to the offending community and be rewarded with administrative positions. The two most recent examples to occur this month are HERE and HERE.

I posted on The Twilight Empire's Steam Forum to clear up any confusion addressed in the recent announcement:

Please remove all assets produced by myself [Friagram] from your [The Twilight Empire] gameservers/webservers. This includes the animated/quadruped models, anthromorphic models, and any other such compiled content not explicitly released under the GPLv3 license. Nowhere was right given to redistribute, modify, or use any content for commercial puroses with or without attribution. If there was any confusion as to such rights, they should now be made clear.

Note that your hosting service (Nuclear Fallout Enterprises, and this InterNap) is clear upon such subjects:

Further, and without limiting the more general prohibitions of this AUP, you shall not use the Services or Infrastructure, or assist anyone else, to: Publish, transmit, distribute or store content, material, information or data that ... © infringes, dilutes, misappropriates or otherwise violates any privacy, intellectual property, publicity or other personal rights including, without limitation, copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets or other proprietary information (including unauthorized use of domain names);

Digital Millennium Copyright Act In accordance with all applicable laws, Internap respects the intellectual property rights of its customers, suppliers, partners, end users and third parties. Without limiting its rights and remedies hereunder, Internap complies with all aspects of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (42 USC 512, et. seq.) (“DMCA”) and maintains and enforces a policy whereby it will terminate the Services to any end user guilty of infringement.
