Finally the wait is over. Let's have a look back at today's episode that started the Mane 6 journey across Equestria.

Only thing I can say about this episode is:  wow.  If I thought the S4 finale was heavy, this episode pushed it off the cliff!  I'd say this is one of the best season premiers of MLP:FiM overall, second only to S2.

Spoilers ahoy

Honestly? The first mayor thought I had after it was over, was... "Where the frig was the library scene?"

Second thought: "Darnit, it wasn't Aria Blaze D: , was so sure of it."

On a whole... it was, well, odd for a season opener, I think.

I believe that this is the first time there isn't some ancient or superpowered thing/character that causes the conflict, but... just a pony.

True, a very talented one it seemed (after it turned out that the staff was just a normal stick, stand still for a second... she singlehandly stopped and neutralised Twilight Sparkle, princess of friendship, an alicorn who specialises in magic, and probably the most powerful pony in equestria sans the other princesses), but she was nowhere near as powerfull as like NMM, Discord or Sombra. Just a pony who (and I'm just guessing for now, but I have a feeling she'll be back and we'll know more) wanted to have power and control, to make a society she truly believes could work...

Nor did the mane6 actually resolve the endgame (wich Twi also acknowledged, to wich I applaud the writers for), mind you. To my surprise, it were the 3 from before that stopped her, something I did not expect when she ran for it.

All in all... I liked it. It was a refreshing episode, and I'm intrigued how this season will go on.

Also... eastern unicorns? Metalbrook (or what was the name)? 8 artifacts? New types of magic? Portable cutiemarks?

Gosh, so much new worldbuilding, and so many more questions...

I found the season 5 opening to be one of the worst. All I could see is...

Communism, Communism everywhere.

I hate to be the encyclopedia here, but I honestly don't believe that communism was the main inspiration behind this episode.  While there are plenty of parallels and similarities, I think the episode had plenty in common with Kurt Vonnegut's short story, "Harrison Bergeron."  If you didn't read it in middle school, the story is about a dystopian future where extreme egalitarianism is enforced by a government entity called the Handicapper General:  if you are beautiful/handsome, you must wear a mask at all times; if you are intelligent, you must wear an earpiece that buzzes intermittently that disrupts your thoughts; and if you are athletic or strong, you must wear weights.

Yes, the four new background characters have really great designs and lovable personalities!  I think my favorite would have to be Double Diamond.
