i55 Hype Time

12 posts in this topic

For those of you unaware, this upcoming weekend is i55, the latest in a LAN series put on by Multiplay. Starting way back in i46, the NA TF2 community has been sending 2 teams over to Europe every year to do battle in the only international TF2 tournament out there. NA took home first place at i46 and i52, with EU only taking home first at i49.

Will Froyotech or Ascent bring home yet another win for the NA crowd, or can one of the EU teams bring home a win and tie things up?

So are we talking Invite level play here?

For those not in the competitive scene, TF2's Comp Skill set is categorized as such from lowest skill to highest;

Iron, Steel, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and then Invite.

Invite level is exactly as the name implies, where only the best of the best players are personally invited and sponsored by companies to play in tournaments with HUGE cash prizes up for grabs. However, this skill set is normally reserved for 6v6 gameplay and I've never heard of any such LAN tournaments for Highlander (9v9) games, but I could be wrong.

This is 6v6. It's Iron-Plat is a UGC thing. ESEA is Open, Intermediate, and Invite. The summer Insomnia series LAN has become the international tournament for TF2. I49 had NA, Australia, and European teams show up to duke it out. Froyotech and Ascent are the top 2 invite teams in NA. Whoever takes first at i55 will be world champions.

I think the prize pool for i55 is only like £5k or something like that. ESEA Invite has a prize pool of about $15k, but they don't get a LAN anymore.

Flan (Florida LAN) has done highlander tournaments at LAN, but the big HL LAN is the upcoming DeutschLAN in Europe next month.

Invite playoffs were awsome this year barring the whole no LAN thing, super excited to see how the yuros stack up. I especially want to see TLR, even though they dont have shadowburn they got alfa, a former Ascent member, to ring. This is looking to be the most competitive summer i-Series yet.

Danger Dogs to take the world by storm and win i55

It's not up on YouTube yet, but the nerdRage vs Froyotech match is here: http://www.twitch.tv/teamfortresstv/v/13386935

(There were apparently issues and the stream had to be restarted after it was 1-0 in Froyo's favor. This VOD picks up from there.)

Edit:

Holy shit, airshots fucking everywhere.
